More Information
This workshop allows students to learn the traditional screen printing method. It involves applying a light-sensitive emulsion to a screen, exposing it to light with a design, and then washing away the unexposed emulsion to create what is essentially a stencil. This method provides a deeper understanding of the screen printing process and allows for more intricate designs.
All supplies are provided! All you need to bring is yourself and a design. Additionally, you are allowed to bring up to two items of clothing to print on but this is optional as I have fabric available for printing.
Design Specifications
In order to print your design onto the screen, we'll need to work together to create a positive. A positive is an opaque, black ink print on transparent or translucent film. There is a printer in class and plenty of transparency sheets, but your design needs to be prepared beforehand.
Additionally, the level of detail we are currently able to achieve is not photo-realism. We can absolutely do more complicated designs than the Handmade Workshop, but some thin lines are not currently possible. To see an example of the level of detail that is possible, watch this instagram reel.
The screen we are working with is 10 x 8 inches, which translates to 2400 x 3000 pixels with 300 Dots-Per-Inch (DPI). The higher quality your design, the clearer it will come out.
Please email me at class@habitgallery.com to make sure your design is ready, or with any questions you might have.
