Habit Gallery at Abbey House: Access Information

Abbey House is a Wellness & Healing Arts center featuring a collection of local small businesses.

Masks:

  • I require high quality masks with every activity I do in the building. The only exception for this is when I am working in the studio with people who are in my (very small) safety bubble. These instances most often happen after class hours.
  • If you do not have a high quality mask upon arrival, one will be provided for you for $2.
  • Anyone who feels sick on or before the day they are scheduled to visit my studio is asked to alert Billy via email ASAP to reschedule.
  • The main Abbey House building and its tenants do not require masks.
  • The Habit Gallery studio has a private entrance and bathroom. The private entrance is directly next to the main entrance/lobby of Abbey House. There are occasionally people walking by unmasked, especially during the most common working hours (9-5).
  • I require everyone to keep their mask on their nose and mouth while they are in my studio. You must leave the studio to eat or drink.
  • There is a porch out front, and a backyard available if you are comfortable with that, as well as many side streets and parks in the neighborhood if you prefer. It is highly encouraged that you eat a full meal before the class, however class time does allow for a 15 minute break in the middle if needed. If you do not end up needing these 15 minutes, you can use this time to add more detail, ask questions, or just head out early :)

Wheelchairs:

The biggest access drawback about this studio is definitely the stairs and lack of wheelchair access.

From the street view, you can see multiple sets of stairs leading up to my studio. Some of these stairs are avoidable by going the long way around the building, however a set of 6 stairs and a ledge right before the door is currently unavoidable. I am in the process of putting together a youtube video showing exactly what I'm talking about so people with dynamic disabilities can decide if it's something they can manage. When that is complete it will be linked here.

I like to be as accessible as possible and am definitely a sad I'm even having to write this. I'm genuinely sorry to any wheelchair user who was seeking to attend a class or studio session and now can't, or any wheelchair user who finds me in the time I am renting here and is unable to schedule a class. The move-out of the last studio was a hasty process so I want to reassure that I am highly prioritizing wheelchair access with the next studio.
